 TRANSFORMING LEARNING

The iNSPIRE iNITIATIVE

iPad's in Our Schools

McIntosh County Schools has a vision to create learning environments in which technology is naturally blended into the teaching and learning process. For students to live successfully in this world, they must be able to use technological tools to communicate, explore and learn. The McIntosh County Schools System is responsible for educating our students to use these tools proficiently, effectively and ethically.

In order to realize our vision, the McIntosh County Schools will make iPads available in classrooms beginning the 2011-2012 school year. All administrators and a select cohort of teachers will receive iPad training to begin this integration of technology. Each school will receive an AppleCart, which holds 30 iPads. Therefore, iPads will be accessible to all students in our school system.

Teachers will eventually develop their lesson plans and drive the instructional program using the iPad . Our technology department will facilitate this training and support teachers and students. The Apple iPad inspires creativity and hands-on learning and links our high school students to the world of virtual learning. Administrators will use their iPad to make teacher observations, monitor teacher lesson plans, and become more mobile within the school. Once we integrate the iPads into our curriculum, our community will see teaching, and learning in a whole new way.

We thank our citizens for providing the one-cent E-Splost that allows for these technology purchases which would be impossible during this time of shrinking school budget funds.

Common Core Georgia Performance Standards Implementation

The state of Georgia, along with 44 other states, will fully implement the Common Core State Standards by the 2013-2014 school year. The standards were developed in collaboration with teachers, administrators, parents, and educational experts to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our students for entry level, credit bearing academic college courses and workforce training programs. The state of Georgia and McIntosh County Schools will implement the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS) over a three year period. From January to August teachers will be provided professional learning. All grades will implement the CCGPS during the 2013-2014 school year. The projected date for the common assessment is the 2013-2014 school year.
